To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please keep your email donation receipt as your official record. We’ll send it to you upon successful completion of your donation.
Will I be removed from the swim if I do not meet the fundraising “ask” requirement of $2,000?
Swimmers who fail to show motivation to fundraise for the swim will be contacted directly. We understand times are unique but we require your best effort to help support the mission and our goal. Removal of your spot is at our discretion and will be given to someone who can meet the minimum fundraising requirement.
Do I need to provide documentation for open water swim experience?
Swimmers will be evaluated on an individual basis who have minimal OW experience. Documentation may include but is not limited to, previous open water swim events or races, proof of swim club, letter from coach/trainer, etc.
Do I need to provide my own kayaker?
Swimmers are required to find their own kayak escort for the duration of the swim. We understand individuals traveling may not be able to do so. Additional kayak support is limited. If you need a kayak escort please let us know prior and we will work with you to accommodate.
Will kayaks be provided if I want to support a swimmer?
It is preferred that you bring your own kayak and personal life saving device for the kayaker. Capital SUP of Annapolis will deliver a kayak, paddle, and PFD provided the kayaker contacts them and pays their fee ($50). The link to the Kayak rental page is given under Participan Information>Kayak Rentals.
Is this a wetsuit mandatory for the swim?
Yes. Unless cleared with Event Organizers in writing prior to the event. If you wish to swim without a wetsuit you need to ask permission when signing up. Proof of multiple open water swims for a minimum duration of 2.5 hours in sub 60 degree water is required. Permission must be obtained prior to the registration closing date.
Can I use fins, buoys, etc?
Swimmers who are well over the 2:00:00 time mark are strongly encouraged to wear fins (please make sure you are training in them prior to showing up for the event). Swimmers are more than welcome to wear a personal swim buoy if they feel more comfortable in the water with it. Please reach out in advance with any questions, comments or concerns.
Will the swim be postponed or cancelled due to inclement weather?
We will delay the swim up to a certain point and time to let weather pass, but ultimately the final call on whether it is safe enough to put swimmers in the water due to inclement weather will be made by the Event Organizers depending on weather forecasts and the ability for safety and support vessels to operate safely as well as swimmers to be able to move through the water safely. In the event the swim is cancelled, we will still hold our after party to gather and celebrate.
Is there parking on-site?
Yes, Bay Ridge Community Pool Facility at 2 Herndon Ave., Annapolis, MD. Look out for directional signs along Forest Drive, Bay Ridge Road and Herndon Avenue. Once in the parking lot please follow directions from volunteers. If possible, please car pool to the event.
Are there group-based hotel accommodations?
We do not have group-based hotel accommodations but have provided a list of local hotels withing 15 – 20 minutes of the event site. See listing under Event Info.
